An operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been shot dead during an enforcement operation against suspected illegal miners in Korokpa Village, Niger State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at about 2 p.m., according to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar M.R. Muti.

The NSCDC said operatives of its Mining Marshal came under attack after suspected illegal miners resisted enforcement activities in the area.
According to the statement, the officers called for reinforcement during the operation, but one of the operatives was shot in the head amid the confrontation.
“He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries,” the statement said.
Reacting to the incident, the Niger State Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, condemned the attack and described the slain officer as a patriotic and courageous personnel who died in the line of duty.

He said the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had launched efforts to apprehend those responsible for the killing.
The command also appealed to residents to provide credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling illegal mining activities and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
