Operatives of the Jesse Police Division in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, in collaboration with community youths, have arrested a 28-year-old suspected cultist, Oghenebuba Mamatime, who had been on the police wanted list over an alleged shooting incident.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the arrest was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued in Warri.

According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended following a complaint by a man, whose identity was withheld, alleging that Mamatime shot him during an incident that occurred on July 21, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.
Edafe said the suspect had earlier been declared wanted for allegedly shooting the victim along Ujomi Road, Jesse Town.
He added that a search conducted after the arrest led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and one locally made single-barrel gun.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is allegedly a member of the Eiye Confraternity and was unhappy with the victim’s decision to renounce cultism.
Police said an argument reportedly broke out as the suspect allegedly attempted to force the victim back into the cult group, leading to the shooting.
The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the collaboration between officers of the Jesse Division and community youths, describing it as a positive step in the fight against cultism and other crimes.
He urged residents to sustain the partnership and extend it to tackling drug abuse, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The commissioner also advised young people to shun cult-related activities and embrace lawful pursuits.
