President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon announce a fresh salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve their welfare, Minister of Defence Christopher Gwabin Musa has disclosed.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Musa, a retired general, made this known in a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, saying the planned pay review reflects the Federal Government’s continued commitment to rewarding the sacrifices of military personnel.

The minister recalled that the monthly salary of soldiers was increased from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000 during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, describing it as a major welfare milestone for members of the Armed Forces.
According to him, the government is now working on another upward review to further improve the welfare of troops.
“I want to state here that a few weeks ago, I mentioned that soldiers are now receiving ₦100,000. When I was Chief of Defence Staff, soldiers were receiving ₦49,000.
“About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to ₦100,000, and that was achieved. We are, however, making further efforts to increase it again,” Musa said.
The minister did not disclose the proposed salary figure or when the new package would take effect but indicated that President Tinubu would make the official announcement.
The planned salary increase is expected to form part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to boost troop morale, strengthen welfare and support personnel engaged in ongoing security operations across the country.
