The Kano State Sharia Commission has banned the practice known as “attachment,” where commercial tricycle (keke) riders carry female passengers beside them, saying the arrangement contravenes Islamic teachings.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the directive was announced by the commission’s Second Commissioner, Sheikh Ali Danabba, during a meeting with the leadership of the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association (BOTORA), aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving order in the state’s commercial transport sector.

Danabba said the practice should be discontinued immediately because it involves unnecessary physical closeness between male riders and female passengers.
According to him, the practice is prohibited under Islamic law and does not align with the moral values the commission seeks to promote across the state.
He explained that the meeting was convened to enhance cooperation between the Sharia Commission and BOTORA in addressing issues affecting commercial tricycle operations in Kano.
The discussions also focused on measures to curb child abduction, combat drug abuse and trafficking, and promote discipline and responsible conduct among tricycle operators.
Danabba urged commercial tricycle riders to comply with the directive and support ongoing efforts to promote public safety, moral values and social order in Kano State.
Responding, the Chairman of BOTORA pledged the association’s full cooperation with the Sharia Commission in implementing the directive and supporting initiatives aimed at improving public safety and the overall development of the state.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Ali Danabba, Commissioner Gwani Dahir Yakasai, senior officials of the Kano State Sharia Commission and members of BOTORA’s leadership.
