President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s formal admission as the newest National Member Committee of the World Energy Council, describing the development as a major milestone for the country’s energy sector.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the President said membership of the century-old global energy organisation would strengthen Nigeria’s participation in international discussions on energy security, affordability, equity and sustainability.

The World Energy Council brings together more than 100 countries and provides a platform for stakeholders to shape conversations and policies on the future of global energy.
Tinubu also congratulated the pioneer leadership of WEC Nigeria, headed by Abdulrazaq Isa as Chairman and Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the composition of the inaugural board, which includes representatives from the energy industry, regulatory bodies, finance, academia, industry associations and the Future Energy Leaders community.
Tinubu described Isa as a distinguished Nigerian and visionary industrialist whose investments in indigenous refining and industrial energy had contributed to expanding opportunities for local businesses and strengthening the country’s energy landscape.
He also praised Wunti for his contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector over more than three decades, describing him as an experienced strategist and reform advocate whose career has been marked by strategic leadership and initiatives aimed at improving government revenue and investor confidence.
The President said the diversity and experience of the pioneer board would provide WEC Nigeria with the expertise, credibility and neutrality required to effectively contribute to global energy conversations.
“Nigeria has joined the World Energy Council to lead, not just participate, to ensure Africa’s voice shapes global energy decisions,” Tinubu said.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting WEC Nigeria as a neutral and technology-agnostic platform for policy dialogue, investment mobilisation and innovation.
Tinubu also expressed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the World Energy Council headquarters in London and its global network in pursuit of secure, affordable and sustainable energy.
He wished Isa, Wunti and members of the inaugural board success as they take on what he described as a historic national assignment.
