Tinubu to Declare Open JIBWIS International Conference on Security in Abuja
Sultan, Governors, Scholars Set to Attend
Banditry, Kidnapping to Take Centre Stage

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to declare open an international conference on security and national unity in Abuja on August 11, with organisers set to bring together political leaders, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, diplomats and other stakeholders to examine Nigeria’s security challenges.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the two-day conference, organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) in collaboration with the Muslim World League of Saudi Arabia, will be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.

Themed “International Conference on Security for Sustainable Socio-economic Development,” the event will focus on the impact of insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping, on Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

According to a statement by Garbadeen Mohammad, Chairman of the conference’s Media and Publicity Committee, the gathering will feature high-level plenary sessions examining national security and socio-economic development from both Nigerian and global perspectives.

Mohammad said participants would also deliberate on diversity and inclusive coexistence, while expert panels would explore strategies for countering terrorism and armed banditry and strengthening community resilience.

The conference will also feature global partnership roundtables aimed at promoting sustainable socio-economic development and deepening collaboration among stakeholders.

“The gathering would provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas and strengthen partnerships towards achieving peace, stability and sustainable development,” Mohammad said.

The conference is scheduled to begin at 9am on August 11 and end at 2:30pm on August 12.

A national preaching session will subsequently be held at the JIBWIS headquarters in Utako, Abuja, on the evening of August 12 and continue through the night.

Participants are expected to depart Abuja for their respective destinations on August 13.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, will serve as the royal father of the day.

Those expected at the conference include state governors, federal and state lawmakers, ministers, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, diplomats, captains of industry and members of the Muslim community from Nigeria and other countries.

Members of the general public are also expected to participate in the event, which organisers said would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange perspectives and develop partnerships around peace, security and sustainable development.
