The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Dr. Akogun Wale Anomo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening agriculture, empowering local farmers, and advancing food security through the Renewed Hope Farmers Empowerment and Support Programme.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the programme brought together farmers, agricultural stakeholders, traditional leaders, government officials, and residents, alongside the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ikosi-Ejinrin Chapter.
As part of the empowerment initiative, hundreds of farmers received various agricultural tools and inputs, including water pumps, agricultural machines, NPK fertiliser, chicks and feeds, fishing nets, knapsack sprayers, wheelbarrows, cutlasses, hoes, rakes, shovels, diggers, and other farming equipment.
The intervention is expected to boost agricultural productivity, improve the livelihoods of beneficiaries, and support food production within the council area.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Anomo said the initiative was designed to complement the efforts of the Federal and Lagos State Governments towards achieving food security and sustainable agricultural development.
“Today’s empowerment was done to complement what our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and our Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, are doing to encourage agricultural sustainability and food security.”
He added that the council recognised the challenges confronting farmers and would continue to support interventions aimed at improving agricultural activities and the welfare of farmers.
The Chairman urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment and inputs provided, assuring them that his administration would continue to introduce programmes that would strengthen agricultural productivity and improve food security.
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the new AFAN executives for Ikosi-Ejinrin Chapter by the Lagos State Chairman of AFAN, Mr. Sakin Agbayewa.
Agbayewa commended the council chairman for what he described as an exceptional level of support for farmers, noting that the empowerment programme was particularly significant because it coincided with the inauguration of the AFAN executives.
“I have inaugurated AFAN executives in all the 47 Local Governments and LCDAs in Lagos State, but the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Dr. Wale Anomo, is the first chairman to empower farmers on the day of inauguration in this manner.”
He described the intervention as unprecedented and commended Anomo for his commitment to agriculture and the welfare of farmers.
In recognition of his contributions to agricultural development and support for farmers, Dr. Anomo was subsequently honoured as Patron of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).
The programme also featured a food exhibition, providing farmers and exhibitors with an opportunity to showcase agricultural produce and food products. Residents and participants were equally given access to food items at subsidised prices.
The initiative was welcomed by participants, who described it as a practical intervention capable of improving agricultural production, supporting livelihoods, creating economic opportunities, and contributing to efforts to tackle food insecurity.
The combination of farmer empowerment, the inauguration of AFAN executives, and the subsidised food exhibition further underscored the growing focus on agriculture as a key driver of economic empowerment and food security within Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA.
