The All Progressives Congress has declared that President Bola Tinubu has performed better in his first term than every democratically elected president Nigeria has had since the return to democracy in 1999.
Eko Hot Blog reports that APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the claim during an interview with Channels Television on Monday while defending the Tinubu administration’s performance and economic policies.

Morka said the economic indicators under Tinubu were evidence of the administration’s achievements, insisting that the President inherited a country facing severe economic difficulties when he assumed office in May 2023.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outperformed any president in his first term. He has outperformed any democratically elected president in this country in their terms,” Morka said.
The APC spokesman argued that the administration had taken difficult decisions aimed at addressing longstanding economic problems and restoring stability.
According to him, Tinubu inherited an economy that was “in a complete mess,” but government policies had since helped Nigeria move away from what he described as severe macroeconomic challenges.
Morka said the results of the administration’s policies were becoming increasingly evident, adding that even some critics of the government had started acknowledging improvements.
He maintained that Nigeria had “come out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level as a result of the reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration.
Morka also offered a strong defence of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, which preceded Tinubu’s government.
He described Buhari as a “stopgap president,” arguing that the former President’s role was to prevent Nigeria from sliding further after what he characterised as 16 years of poor governance under the Peoples Democratic Party.
“President Buhari served his term and did his job to hold the country steady for President Tinubu to take over,” Morka said.
Nigeria has been under civilian democratic rule since 1999, with Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu serving as elected presidents during the period.
Tinubu assumed office in 2023 after defeating his major challengers in the presidential election. His administration has since introduced major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange regime.
The reforms have attracted praise from investors and government supporters but have also generated criticism over inflation, rising living costs and declining purchasing power.
Recently report note that economic hardship and insecurity remain major concerns among Nigerian voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Morka’s latest assessment comes as the APC intensifies its defence of Tinubu’s record ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the administration’s economic reforms expected to remain a major part of the ruling party’s campaign message.
However, the claim that Tinubu has outperformed all previous elected presidents is Morka’s assessment on behalf of the APC and was not accompanied by a detailed comparative ranking of the presidents or specific indicators covering their respective first terms.
