Thousands of residents and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday took to the streets across the three federal constituencies in Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party officially flagged off its campaign for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the campaign began in the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, where residents gathered at Agbado Station to welcome the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu; his running mate, Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; the party’s senatorial candidate, Prof Iyabo Obasanjo; and other party leaders.

Residents waved from the streets and balconies of nearby buildings as the PDP campaign train moved through the area.
In Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, the party’s campaign team was received by a large crowd at NTA Junction, Totoro, where Dele Olaleye is contesting for the House of Representatives.
Supporters, who reportedly began gathering from as early as 10am, chanted solidarity songs as the PDP candidates addressed them and promised purposeful representation.
There was also a significant turnout in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, where Toyin Amuzu is the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives.
Supporters followed the campaign convoy to Ake Pavilion, where the Ogun Central campaign flag-off rally was held.
Speaking at the rally, Adebutu urged Ogun Central residents to support Prof Obasanjo, describing her as a tested and trusted candidate with a record of service.
He said the district needed to move away from what he described as non-performance and embrace a new direction.
Adebutu also called on residents and party supporters to turn out in large numbers for the PDP in the 2027 elections, protect their votes and resist intimidation.
According to him, the country would experience better days under the leadership of the PDP.
“I want to remind you that the best times of Nigeria have largely emerged under the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, exemplified by what Baba Obasanjo did as a cornerstone for his successors,” Adebutu said.
“Happy days are coming again, very, very soon. In January, a new dawn will break for the betterment of our people.”
He urged voters to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying they should use their votes to demand better governance and a brighter future for their children.
On her part, Prof Obasanjo said she was encouraged that residents continued to remember her contributions when she represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 and served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health between 2003 and 2007.
The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo promised to do more if given another opportunity to serve.
She said her goal was to ensure that more residents benefited from the dividends of democracy and called on Ogun residents to support the PDP’s bid to return to power.
Residents and party supporters who spoke during the campaign pledged their loyalty to the party’s candidates and expressed confidence that they would support them at the polls in 2027.
