Former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, has declared that he will remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party while supporting the re-election bids of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji in 2026 and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Fayose made the declaration on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti during the grand finale of Oyebanji’s campaign tour ahead of the June 20 governorship election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the former governor said although he remained a member of the PDP, he and several of his supporters would work for the victory of Oyebanji and Tinubu, who are both members of the All Progressives Congress.
According to Fayose, the performances of both leaders in office justified their continued stay in power.
He maintained that there was currently no opposition capable of matching the achievements recorded by the governor and the president.
Fayose also openly praised Oyebanji’s leadership style, saying his administration had performed impressively and deserved another term in office.
“It’s the votes of the strangers (PDP) that brought Tinubu into power then. It’s our votes that brought the current governor in and will still bring him in again.
“We, the Iruwa Ogiriwa, are with you and we are going to stand by you. The fact remains that something has to be done. Show me your opposition either in town or elsewhere.
“I’m not a member of APC, I’m a member of PDP, but we want to assure you that this good work must continue.
“We therefore commend Governor Abayomi Oyebanji to remain in office till 2030. On behalf of all the former governors, we commend and identify with Governor BAO to remain in office till the year 2030,” Fayose stated.
The former governor further described the Ekiti governorship election as a major political test ahead of President Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.

According to him, the target of securing 500,000 votes in the election is aimed at demonstrating that Ekiti State remains firmly behind the president ahead of the next general election.
