Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has challenged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to seize available opportunities, develop themselves and make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Sanwo-Olu gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 3 week Orientation Course for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja.

The governor urged the corps members to take the discipline, patriotism, resilience and spirit of service developed during their time at the camp to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA).
According to him, Nigeria needs the creativity, courage and ideas of young people to build a better future.
“Government can create opportunities but young people must seize them, because Nigeria needs your ideas, courage, creativity, resilience and belief in a better future built through collective action,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also urged the corps members to stop focusing only on the challenges facing the country and instead look for ways to provide solutions in their communities.
“Do not merely complain about the challenges confronting our society; ask yourselves what you can do about them and become innovative, resourceful and solution driven wherever you serve,” the governor said.
He encouraged them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills and explore opportunities that could help them become entrepreneurs and job creators.
The governor also assured the corps members that the Lagos State Government would continue to work with NYSC authorities and security agencies to safeguard their welfare and security throughout the service year.
He urged them to make their service year count by leaving a positive impact wherever they are posted.
“When this service year is over, I want you to look back and say: I served, I contributed, I made a difference, and that is your legacy. Endeavour to leave every community better than you met it,” he said.
Sanwo Olu was represented at the ceremony by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Pharm. Toyin Oke Osanyitolu.
The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Christiana Salmwang, also urged the corps members to approach the next phase of their service year with discipline, patriotism and integrity.
She advised them to accept their postings with humility and settle into their communities quickly while carrying out their duties with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.
“I urge you to accept your postings with humility and patriotism, settle down promptly, and serve with dedication, commitment, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to Nigeria,” Salmwang said.
She also warned the corps members to avoid activities that could put their safety at risk, particularly unauthorised and night journeys.
“Remain vigilant at all times, avoid unauthorised and night journeys, protect your personal information, and seek appropriate permission whenever travel becomes unavoidable during your service year,” she added.
Salmwang expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, residents, partners, collaborating agencies, NYSC officials and the media for their support during the orientation programme.
