The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has praised Princess Opeyemi Bright, Mayor of Barking and Dagenham in the United Kingdom, for her outstanding leadership and dedication to community development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that during a courtesy visit to Mayor Bright at her residence in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, Dr Dabiri-Erewa described her as a beacon of hope and an inspiring role model for the younger generation of Nigerians living abroad.

Highlighting the significance of her achievement, the NiDCOM boss noted that Princess Bright, the youngest serving mayor in the UK, embodies the values of excellence, service, and integrity that continue to define the Nigerian diaspora, particularly among the youth.
“This is what we mean when we say the Nigerian diaspora is a force for good. Princess Bright is a shining example of how Nigerian youth, when given the platform, can lead, inspire, and positively impact their communities. Her story is one of dedication, hard work, and resilience, and we are proud of her achievements,” she said.
Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians abroad. She stated that NiDCOM remains open to collaborations that promote inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development within the global Nigerian community.
Dr Dabiri-Erewa made this known during a visit to Princess Opeyemi Bright, the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham in the United Kingdom, applauding her as a role model for Nigerian youth in the diaspora.

In her remarks, Mayor Bright expressed gratitude for the recognition and reflected on her public service journey, which she said began over 20 years ago, inspired by her mother’s dedication to grassroots activism.
She pledged to continue creating opportunities for Nigerians living in the UK and to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The Mayor also emphasized her commitment to helping the Nigerian community in Barking and Dagenham thrive and encouraged young Nigerians everywhere to pursue their passions and develop their skills to their fullest potential.
“I am proud to be a British-Nigerian and even more proud to serve my community while carrying my heritage with honour. This visit means a lot, and I thank Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa for her leadership and encouragement. Together, we can continue to create opportunities and inspire a generation of changemakers,” she added.
