Adeleke to Swear in Newly Elected Osun LG Chairmen Today

- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in the Osun State local government elections held on Saturday, February 22, amid controversy and opposition party protests.
- According to the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), the PDP secured all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state’s 30 local government areas.
- However, the polls were not without controversy, as the Ademola Adeleke led Osun government proceeded with the election despite advice from the police and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to postpone the election due to security concerns.
Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, will preside over the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Local Government Councils Chairmen on Sunday, February 23.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made by Olalekan Badmus, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, following the successful completion of the local government elections held on Saturday.

According to Badmus, the ceremony will take place at the Government House in Osogbo, the state capital.
He wrote: “The newly elected local government council chairmen will be sworn in by His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, tomorrow, 23/02/2025, at 12:00 noon prompt at the Government House, Osogbo.”

OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye announced the results via a Facebook Live broadcast, stating that the PDP won all 332 wards and all 30 LGAs.
However, the polls were not without controversy, as the Ademola Adeleke led Osun government proceeded with the election despite advice from the police and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to postpone the election due to security concerns.

The opposition parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP), have expressed their dissatisfaction with the election process, with the LP calling for a postponement.
The APC also boycotted the polls, citing a lack of transparency and electoral integrity.
