Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Adesina stated that he is open to serving in any capacity after his tenure at AfDB ends—whether on a global stage, within Africa, or in his home country, Nigeria.
Adesina, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was first elected as the President of AfDB in 2015. He was re-elected for a second term in 2020, leading the continental financial institution, which has played a significant role in Africa’s economic development since its establishment in 1964.
Throughout his career, he has been known for his dedication to agricultural transformation, economic growth, and financial inclusion in Africa.
During the interview, when asked about his future plans and the possibility of contesting for the presidency, Adesina reflected on his deep commitment to Nigeria. He recalled a moment earlier in his life when he had the opportunity to obtain U.S. citizenship but declined.

He explained that he was proud of his Nigerian identity and believed that God had a purpose for making him Nigerian. He acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians sometimes face with their passports but emphasized that respect is earned through hard work and strong leadership, not by seeking validation from others.
Adesina expressed that his greatest source of happiness is seeing people’s lives improve. He believes that leadership is about service and making a positive impact. He humorously referenced a popular song by Nigerian musician Davido, “Unavailable,” saying that if it were about national service, he would ask Davido to change the lyrics to “I am available, they will see me.”
