Eko Hot Blog reports that reacting to the development, Engr. Dr. Aiyeola Sikiru, Director of Space Regulation and Spectrum Management at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja, lauded the appointment as a significant milestone not only for Disu but for the Nigeria Police institution as a whole.
According to Aiyeola, the announcement represents “a fitting reward for resilience, discipline, and unwavering service to the Nigerian people.”
He noted that Disu’s career trajectory within the Nigeria Police Force reflects consistency, courage, and a results-driven approach to leadership.
Beyond professional admiration, Aiyeola highlighted a personal connection with the Disu family, tracing their relationship back to their days at Odo-Obara High School in Epe.
He recalled serving as Senior Boy during the 1985/86 academic session, the same period when Olufunlola Disu (née Raheem), wife of the new Acting IGP, held the position of Assistant Senior Girl.
“That shared history makes this moment particularly special,” Aiyeola remarked, adding that watching Disu’s steady rise through the ranks has been both inspiring and reassuring.
He further observed that Disu’s service record spanning leadership roles in the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Rivers State Command, the Federal Capital Territory Command, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), and the Special Protection Unit (SPU), demonstrates a broad and impactful policing experience.
Expressing optimism about the future, Aiyeola said the Acting IGP’s blend of operational expertise and strategic thinking would strengthen internal security, enhance public confidence, and consolidate ongoing reforms within the Force.
He concluded by praying for wisdom, courage, and divine guidance for Disu as he assumes the responsibility of leading the Police Force at a pivotal time in Nigeria’s development.
