The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Omotayo Iwajomo, following an intelligence driven operation that resulted in the recovery of an AK49 assault rifle and a large cache of ammunition.
Eko Hot Blog reports that according to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest took place on July 15, 2025, during a raid carried out by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at a known criminal hideout in the Ajegunle area of Ikorodu.

Iwajomo was reportedly caught with one AK49 rifle, three loaded magazines, fifteen rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, three rounds of 9mm K2 ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition.
Initial investigations have connected the suspect to several incidents of armed robbery and violent land grabbing across Lagos State. Authorities believe the recovered rifle was used in some of these criminal operations.
Further intelligence obtained during interrogation indicates that Iwajomo is part of a wider criminal syndicate. The police stated that efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplices and bring everyone involved to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, praised the SCID operatives for their professionalism and quick response. He emphasized the Command’s commitment to intelligence based policing aimed at dismantling criminal organizations.
“Lagos will remain a dangerous terrain for criminals,” CP Jimoh declared. “We will continue to push back against anyone who threatens the peace and safety of our residents.”
