A 28-year-old man named Opeyemi Olusanya was reportedly shot by suspected armed robbers on Saturday, In Ogun State’s Ewekoro Local Government Area.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred in Akinale, as stated by the Ogun State Security Network, also known as Amotekun.

According to a statement released by Amotekun, a distress call alerted them to the robbery in progress. Deputy Corps Commander, Col. TT Bakare (Rtd), reported that Olusanya sustained a gunshot wound to his upper left limb around 1:20 am during the robbery.

Upon receiving the call, the Amotekun Ewekoro Command team swiftly arrived at the scene, only to find the suspects fleeing in a wine-colored Kia Cerato vehicle marked KRD 840 JS

“At the sight of the combatant Amotekun operatives, the robbers took to their heels, made off with valuables, including eight sophisticated mobile phones, two laptops, jewelries and fifty four thousand naira cash (₦54,000:00), as they managed to escape into the nearby bush, leaving behind their operational vehicle,” he said.

The DCC provided additional details, stating that the suspect’s vehicle, a wine-colored Kia Cerato marked KRD 840 JS, has been turned over to the Itori Division of the Nigeria Police for further investigation.

The Amotekun Command, in collaboration with the Police, has launched a thorough investigation into the robbery and the perpetrators’ escape.

Bakare further reported that the gunshot victim, Olusanya, was found in a pool of blood and immediately transported to an undisclosed private hospital in Obada-Oko for urgent medical care.

He quoted the local community to have praised the “prompt and proactive action of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps, highlighting their effort as a testament to commitment to protecting citizens, while emphasising their all-time quick response to distress calls as important steps towards ensuring safety and security in the State.”
