EKO HOT BLOG reports that the operation began after a distress call on December 5, 2025, alerted authorities that heavily armed kidnappers had invaded a community in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, and abducted several residents. A joint team from the FCT Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigerian Army, and the DSS immediately launched a response.
In a statement on Sunday, FCT Police spokesperson Superintendent of Police Josephine Adeh said the team mobilised on December 6, relying on credible intelligence to track the kidnappers’ movement.
The operatives followed the trail through the outskirts of the Mpape community into settlements bordering Kagarko Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
The kidnappers opened fire upon sighting the advancing security personnel, sparking a fierce gun battle.
The superior firepower of the joint team forced them to abandon one victim while retreating through mountainous terrain. Adeh said the operatives displayed “uncommon courage and endurance” as they pursued the suspects for more than seven hours across difficult forest paths.
The chase led to the kidnappers’ hideout deep inside Kweri Forest in Kaduna State. Another heavy exchange of gunfire ensued, breaking the gang’s resistance and forcing them to flee. A thorough search of the camp resulted in the rescue of six additional victims, bringing the total to seven.
The freed captives were immediately moved to a medical facility, where they remain in stable condition. FCT Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye praised the discipline and bravery of the operatives and ordered heightened patrols across identified flashpoints to prevent further attacks.
