EKO HOT BLOG reports that Federal authorities disclosed that intelligence reports showed the mass movement of terrorists from Kwara toward the South-West after weeks of attacks that left dozens dead. On September 29, suspected bandits killed 12 members of a local forest guard unit and a traditional chief in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun LGA. Days earlier, another raid in Edu LGA left residents abducted and several others dead. Coordinated attacks in Patigi and Lafiagi also claimed multiple lives, including a pregnant woman, and forced many villagers to flee.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accompanied by security chiefs, visited Oke-Ode on Thursday to commiserate with families and promised stronger military presence. He admitted more work must be done to protect communities and restore confidence.
In response, Amotekun commanders in Oyo and Ekiti, alongside police commands in Osun and Ondo, assured residents of heightened patrols, checkpoints, and tactical deployments across border communities. The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, also pledged support to Kwara’s government in tackling the crisis.
Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, urged joint forces to neutralise criminal elements across Nigeria and the Sahel. Speaking at the closing of Exercise Haske Biyu in Jaji, he stressed that only regional cooperation and community involvement would ensure lasting peace.
