The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Imo State Command, has deployed more than 650 personnel to ensure road safety during the Ember Months in the state.
The Ember Months September to December are known for increased road traffic as Nigerians travel for festivities and year-end activities, leading to heightened risks of accidents and congestion on highways.

Speaking during the flag-off of the 2025 Ember Months Public Sensitisation and Campaign in Owerri on Friday, the Sector Commander, Mr. Udensi Oji, said the command had mobilised 350 officers and men, alongside over 300 Special Marshals, to enforce safety compliance. The campaign’s theme is “Take Responsibility for Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving.”
Oji explained that the initiative aims to reduce road traffic crashes by sensitising the public on the economic, health, and emotional implications of unsafe driving. He added that the campaign would also educate drivers on legal responsibilities, promote compliance with loading limits, and encourage ethical road behaviour.
“The campaign will strengthen collaboration among agencies, sensitise commuters on the use of the FRSC mobile app to monitor driver conduct, and promote safe driving culture,” Oji said.
According to him, the awareness drive targets commuters, livestock and roadside traders, motorcyclists, tricyclists, and transport operators across the state. He added that the command had prepared a traffic management plan for the festive period, covering December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026.
He advised motorists to avoid distractions such as mobile phone use while driving and maintain total concentration to ensure safety. Oji noted that Imo serves as a gateway to several states including Abia, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, and Cross River, making Owerri a critical traffic hub.

He further urged residents to utilise the FRSC’s toll-free emergency line, assuring that ambulance and towing services would be active throughout the season.
