The protest followed Tuesday’s tension at the Onitsha Main Market after security operatives prevented traders from accessing the market, reportedly acting on the governor’s directive.

The situation degenerated into chaos, with reports that security personnel fired shots to restore order.
Governor Soludo had earlier warned that the market would be shut if traders continued to observe the Monday sit-at-home linked to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is serving a life sentence in Sokoto prison.
