President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly refuted allegations that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria, describing the claim as “a lie from the pit of hell.”
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the president made the remark on Tuesday during the inauguration of projects and the launch of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s book in Imo State.

“They lie all over the place that we have religious persecution. Our Muslim brothers and sisters, our Christian brothers and sisters are united. No religious persecution in Nigeria, it is a lie from the pit of hell,” Tinubu said.
His comments came in response to recent allegations by American comedian and political commentator, Bill Maher, who accused Nigeria of systematic attacks on Christians.
Maher had claimed that Islamist groups like Boko Haram have killed more than 100,000 Christians since 2009 and destroyed over 18,000 churches, describing the situation as a genocide attempt.
He further alleged that Nigerian media have failed to adequately report on the issue.

“I’m not a Christian, but they are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria. This is so much more of a genocide attempt than what is going on in Gaza. They are literally attempting to wipe out the Christian population of an entire country,” Maher said.
However, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, dismissed Maher’s assertions as misleading.
In a statement, Idris said the country’s security challenges affect citizens across all religions and should not be misrepresented as a campaign against one faith.
