Lawmaker promises to announce defection during plenary

Osafile represents Amuwo Odofin Constituency I and is currently the only opposition lawmaker in the 40 member Lagos Assembly.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmaker confirmed her defection on Saturday, stating that she has formally joined the ADC after leaving the Labour Party. She disclosed this while responding to enquiries, saying, “Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC.”
Osafile, who is a first time legislator, however declined to disclose the reasons behind her decision to leave the Labour Party.
When asked when she would officially inform the House of her defection, the lawmaker said she would do so during plenary in the coming days. “Don’t worry, I will announce it during plenary soon,” she added.
Osafile currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation, a role she has held since the inauguration of the current Assembly.
She was elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Folorunso Olaitan Segun, by a wide margin.
Following the election, the APC challenged her victory at the Election Petition Tribunal, which initially ruled in favour of its candidate.

Osafile subsequently approached the Court of Appeal, where the tribunal’s decision was overturned, allowing her to reclaim her seat and bringing the legal battle to a close.
Her defection marks a significant political shift within the Lagos Assembly, where opposition representation has remained limited since the 2023 general elections.
