The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver linked to the road crash that claimed the lives of two close associates of Nigerian-born boxing star Anthony Joshua, has been postponed to February 25, 2026.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the matter, which came up on Tuesday before a Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, was adjourned following an application by the prosecution. Prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, told the court that although four witnesses were listed, only three were present, adding that additional time was required to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Ogun State Attorney General through the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Defence counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, opposed the request, arguing that the prosecution had sufficient time to complete the necessary documentation before the hearing date.

However, the presiding magistrate ruled that the adjournment was in the interest of justice and granted the application, directing the prosecution to ensure the case file is transmitted to the Attorney General’s office. The court consequently fixed February 25, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
Speaking after the proceedings, the defence counsel said he had no issues with the court’s decision, while the prosecutor declined to make any comment.
The case is connected to a fatal accident that occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where a Lexus SUV driven by Kayode reportedly crashed into a stationary truck. The incident led to the deaths of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, while Anthony Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries.

Kayode was arraigned on four counts bordering on dangerous and negligent driving, as well as driving without a valid licence. He was initially remanded in custody on January 2, 2026, before being granted bail for ₦5 million with two sureties.
The Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed that the defendant would remain in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions. The matter was first adjourned to allow for trial preparations.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers for the deceased victims were held on January 4 at the London Central Mosque. Before the repatriation of their remains, Anthony Joshua, accompanied by his mother, had visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their final respects.
The court adjourned the case to enable the prosecution complete the required legal processes ahead of the next hearing date.
