A high-profile stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-East turned chaotic on Sunday after the party’s National Vice Chairman for the region, Mustapha Salihu, failed to acknowledge Vice-President Kashim Shettima in his endorsement speech for President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the event, held in Gombe State, was attended by APC heavyweights, including governors, ministers, lawmakers, and the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who led a delegation of national officers to the meeting.
Salihu, while addressing the gathering, passionately called on the North-East to back President Tinubu for a second term, urging that he should run unopposed in 2027. However, his omission of Shettima—an influential figure from the region—sparked immediate outrage among delegates.
Furious attendees accused Salihu of deliberately disrespecting the Vice-President, who hails from Borno State, and threatened him verbally during the tense moment. The situation escalated quickly, forcing security personnel to evacuate Salihu from the venue for his safety.
In a swift attempt to manage the growing tension, Deputy National Chairman (North), Bukar Dalori, stepped in and publicly endorsed both President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima. His statement was met with applause and helped to briefly restore calm.
However, tensions reignited when Ganduje, in his closing address, also failed to mention Shettima. The second omission reinforced suspicions among party faithful that the vice-president was being sidelined in a coordinated manner, leading to further discontent.

The meeting ended abruptly, with several attendees leaving in protest and murmurs of internal divisions growing louder within the party’s North-East bloc.
