The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is fully prepared to confront emerging security threats, including the growing activities of foreign jihadist groups operating across the country’s borders.
Speaking during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Eko Hot Blog gathered that Shaibu said the military was closely monitoring the worsening security situation in neighbouring countries within the Sahel region and had already detected signs of foreign terrorist elements attempting to infiltrate Nigeria.

He, however, expressed confidence in the Army’s ability to contain the threats, stressing that the country’s land forces possess the experience, professionalism and determination required to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
According to the Army Chief, the Nigerian Army has overcome difficult challenges throughout its history and remains capable of addressing the current security environment.

He recalled the sacrifices and achievements of previous generations of Nigerian soldiers during the two World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and peacekeeping operations under the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), saying the present generation of troops would also rise to the occasion.
Shaibu noted that while security threats continue to evolve, the Army remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities and operational objectives.
He said the military’s primary mission is to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect citizens, support civil authorities whenever necessary and contribute to both national and international peace support operations.

The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army’s mandate has not changed, emphasising that its personnel remain committed to winning land battles, defending the country’s sovereignty and protecting national interests.
He added that the Army would continue to work with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of Nigerians and maintain peace and stability across the country.
Shaibu urged officers and soldiers to remain dedicated to their duty, assuring citizens that the Army would continue to respond decisively to any threat against Nigeria’s unity and security.
