During his address, Atiku criticised the commission’s leadership, particularly its chairman, Joash Amupitan, alleging misconduct and irregularities.

Atiku stated that there was clear evidence suggesting the electoral body was being used to frustrate democratic progress. He warned that Nigerians who previously resisted military rule would not hesitate to oppose any actions that threaten democracy again.
He also pledged that efforts would be made to hold the INEC leadership accountable.
The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party also took aim at the administration of Bola Tinubu, claiming that key sectors such as the economy, security, and education have deteriorated.
He urged citizens to push for meaningful and genuine reforms to address the nation’s challenges.

Tensions between the ADC and INEC have intensified in recent weeks, particularly after the commission withdrew recognition of a faction of the party led by David Mark following a court ruling.
The decision prompted strong reactions from the party, with calls for the removal of the INEC chairman over alleged bias.
Additional controversy arose from claims that the INEC chairman made a partisan post on X (formerly Twitter) in support of the All Progressives Congress during the 2023 general elections.
However, INEC has denied the allegation, maintaining that it remains impartial.
Despite INEC’s refusal to monitor its activities, the ADC has continued with its internal processes, conducting state congresses and proceeding with its national convention, where members of the National Working Committee are expected to be elected.
