Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that he was once pushed into exile after facing multiple threats to his life.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Atiku made the disclosure while speaking at the public presentation of Loyalist Begets Loyalist, a book authored by the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to him, loyalty in Nigerian politics often comes at a high personal cost, noting that both he and Abdullahi have paid dearly for standing by their convictions.

“I have suffered because of loyalty. I was forced into exile, and I survived assassination attempts because I chose to remain loyal,” Atiku said.
He explained that such experiences are not isolated, stressing that many political actors in the country have endured similar trials as a consequence of their allegiance.
The former vice president also cautioned that loyalty must be guided by responsibility and openness, rather than blind devotion.

He said genuine loyalty should promote collective progress, encourage accountability and transparency, and allow room for learning and constructive disagreement.
“Loyalty should not shrink the space of belonging. It should accommodate different views and uphold the dignity of every citizen,” Atiku added, urging leaders and those aspiring to public office to embrace these principles in governance and service.
