Federal authorities are investigating a potential nexus to international terrorism after a gunman wearing clothing emblazoned with “Property of Allah” opened fire at a crowded Austin bar early Sunday morning.

Sources familiar with the investigation confirmed that the suspect, identified as Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Senegal, wore a sweatshirt with the phrase “Property of Allah” while armed with a rifle and a handgun.
Reports further indicate he was wearing an undershirt with an Iranian flag design underneath the hoodie.
While FBI Acting Special Agent Alex Doran stated it is too early to conclusively determine a motive, the evidence of extremist ideology on the suspect’s person and in his vehicle has prompted the Joint Terrorism Task Force to take the lead on the case.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis praised the immediate response of officers embedded in the entertainment district, who confronted and fatally shot Diagne within 57 seconds of the first emergency call.
Diagne had reportedly circled the block multiple times in an SUV, firing at patrons from his window before exiting the vehicle to continue his assault on pedestrians.

Governor Greg Abbott has activated state agencies to increase security patrols, vowing a decisive response to any threats stemming from the current conflict in the Middle East.
