Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB has arrested Umar Abubakar for allegedly stealing school desks from Yelwan Kundum Primary School in Bauchi Local Government Area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Abdulmuminu Jibrin, told journalists on Wednesday that the suspect was apprehended by security operatives last Friday night following a tip off from community leaders.

“The arrest was made possible by the vigilance of community leaders and the swift action of security agents. The board is committed to ensuring that justice is served as a deterrent to others,” Jibrin said.
He added that SUBEB will continue working with security agencies and local communities to protect school property from theft and vandalism.

Jibrin also warned that strict measures are in place to prosecute anyone caught stealing educational materials.
Briefing journalists, the Village Head of Kundum, Nuhu Idris, said the suspect, a native of the community, was caught late at night attempting to remove three desks using a Boxer J5 motorcycle.
“He was confronted and detained by local youths before being handed over to the police,” Idris explained.
Idris added that the arrest followed repeated thefts at the school, calling on the state government to ensure the suspect faces the full weight of the law to prevent future incidents.
