Professionals in the built environment, under the platform of the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG), have called on Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu to provide support for the victims of the recent building collapse on Awolowo Way, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the group made the appeal on Sunday during a condolence visit to the families who lost two children and an elderly man in the tragic incident.

The two storey building collapsed on May 27 in the Ota Ona community along Awolowo Road in Ikorodu.
The bodies of 16-year-old Maleek, his 13-year-old sister Ameerah, and their 73-year-old uncle Bolaji were recovered from the rubble of the collapsed structure.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Kunle Awobodu, former president of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), stated that all stakeholders in the building profession are working collectively to tackle the persistent issue of structural failures in Lagos and across the country.
Awobodu, who also served as the founding president of the BCPG, urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to ensure a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and to extend support to the affected families.

“Our members have collaborated to ensure that building constructions are monitored from foundation to avoid collapse.
“I urge the public to always follow due process before embarking on any construction to avert reccurrence.
“We’re appealing to the state to please direct attention to the couples who lost two children and their loved ones,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the affected families, Olayinka Osinowo appealed to the governor to provide assistance to ease the burden of the bereaved.
Mr Osinowo explained that the families are currently facing emotional distress and struggling with depression.
“We are appealing to the governor to please help us.
“We have spent over N50 million on the property, and our grandmother’s tomb is there.
“We already lost three members of our family, and fortune in terms of money.”
