EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a press statement issued on Sunday, Kalu’s Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, dismissed the report credited to an online platform identified as Native Reporters, describing it as false and lacking credibility.
“The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027,” the statement said.
According to the aide, Kalu remains fully focused on his current responsibilities as Deputy Speaker and as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency, stressing that his priority is delivering effective legislative service to Nigerians.
The statement added that claims suggesting otherwise were misleading and capable of creating unnecessary political tension within the state.
Nwabughiogu urged the media organisation behind the report to immediately retract the publication and observe basic journalistic principles of verification and accuracy. He also cautioned media practitioners against the spread of unverified political information.
“The political family of the Deputy Speaker will announce his plans and intentions at the appropriate time,” the statement added.
The denial follows growing political speculation in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kalu, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress, has in the past expressed optimism about the party’s prospects of winning Abia State in the next election cycle.

However, he has not at any time confirmed a personal ambition to seek the governorship, maintaining silence on any future electoral plans beyond his current legislative mandate.
