Zulum announces N600 per litre petrol subsidy for displaced farmers.
Over 5,000 farmers in Bama receive farm inputs and equipment.
Efforts aim to revive farming in Boko Haram-affected communities.
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has announced a subsidy on petrol, reducing the price to N600 per litre for farmers in communities impacted by Boko Haram insurgency.
This initiative is part of the state government’s effort to alleviate the economic hardships faced by farmers in areas devastated by years of conflict.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdulrahman Bundi, revealed that the announcement was made on Friday during the flag-off of farm input distribution to over 5,000 displaced farmers in Bama town.
Zulum noted that petrol, which sells for between N1,000 and N1,200 per litre in Maiduguri, will now be available to irrigation farmers at a subsidized rate of N600 per litre.
Highlighting the challenges farmers face, Zulum said, “One of the major challenges in these farming communities is the rising cost of fuel. To address this, the government will procure and sell petroleum products to irrigation farmers at a reduced rate. For this season, a litre of petrol will cost N600.”
The governor directed the Commissioner for Agriculture to collaborate with the Brigade Commander to ensure the prompt delivery of the subsidized fuel to farmers in Bama town.
During the event, Zulum distributed various farming inputs, including 2,000 bags of blended NPK fertilizer, 1,000 units of water pumps, 620 gasoline pumps, 380 solar water pumps, 1,000 sprayers, 800 rolls of flexible hoses, 1,000 litres of pesticides, and assorted seeds.
