Fresh attacks have once again shaken communities in Plateau State, coming just a day after President Bola Tinubu visited Jos to console residents and victims of recent violence, highlighting ongoing security concerns.
In the early hours of Friday, suspected gunmen believed to have come from the Rankum (Mahanga) area reportedly attacked the Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area, killing a 51-year-old man, Dalyop Betobeje, Eko Hot Blog gathered.
The incident, which occurred around 6:56 a.m., has been described by local leaders as a setback to ongoing peace efforts.

This attack follows another deadly incident in Heipang District of Bassa Local Government Area.
According to the Berom Youth Moulders Association, armed men suspected to be herders invaded Ban village on Wednesday night, killing a secondary school student, Gloria Godwin, injuring others, and destroying property.

Security sources confirmed that investigations are underway, with efforts ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
Condemning the attack, the youth group described it as a “senseless and brutal act,” while expressing sympathy to the victims and their families.
The Chairman of the association in Heipang District, Jacob Pam Chall, acknowledged the response of security personnel but called for sustained action to ensure justice is served.
He urged authorities to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity, stressing that communities deserve lasting peace and protection.

Residents were also advised to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, while community leaders were encouraged to strengthen vigilance at the grassroots level.
During his earlier visit, President Tinubu had assured residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to ending the cycle of violence and restoring stability in the state.
However, the renewed attacks in Riyom and Bassa have cast doubt on those assurances, highlighting the urgent need for stronger and sustained security measures as violence continues to affect rural communities in Plateau State
