BREAKING: Gunmen Attack Enugu Police Station, Kill Officer, Steal Weapons

Gunmen have launched a deadly attack on the Awgu Divisional Police Headquarters in Enugu State, killing a police officer and carting away weapons.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 24, 2025, resulted in the death of Police Constable Akpa Emmanuel. The assailants also vandalized the station and stole an AK-47 rifle and two riot guns, leaving the area in a state of tension.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that following the incident, security has been heightened across Awgu town, with heavy deployment of spy agents and tactical operatives. The Commissioner of Police in Enugu, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Special Forces, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and other security units to reinforce the division and track down the attackers.
This attack comes just weeks after a new Divisional Police Officer was posted to the station, raising concerns over the growing security threats in the region.
In a related development, another attack was carried out on the Inyi Divisional Police Headquarters in Oji-River Local Government Area at around 2:00 a.m. the same day. However, no casualties or damages were reported as security agents successfully repelled the attackers.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, did not respond to calls or text messages.
