INEC Gives Crucial Update On Recall Process For Natasha Akpoti

Kogi Central constituents have submitted a recall petition against Senator Natasha Akpoti.
INEC requires over 50% voter signatures before verifying and conducting a referendum.

Members of the Kogi Central constituency have formally petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin the recall process of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents the district in the Senate.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the law, a recall requires a petition signed by over 50 percent of registered voters, followed by a verification process and a possible referendum, all of which must be completed within 90 days.

Charity Omole, a representative of the petitioners, confirmed on Monday that the request was driven by the constituency’s need for active representation in the Senate. “We cannot afford to be without representation,” Omole stated.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate on March 6 for “gross misconduct” following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements.
