Abdulrahman Mohammed, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman for the North Central zone, on Monday declared himself the Acting National Chairman of the party amid the ongoing leadership crisis.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement took place at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja following his recognition by the Anyanwu-led National Working Committee (NWC), which earlier suspended Umar Damagum and several other party executives.

Addressing journalists and supporters, Mohammed said his decision to assume the role was aimed at restoring unity, discipline, and stability within the party.

“Today, we are taking responsibility to bring back order and cohesion to our great party,” he stated. “The PDP belongs to all its members — no individual can hold it hostage.”
Mohammed lamented the party’s steady decline over the years, noting that it had gone from ruling Nigeria for 16 consecutive years to spending over a decade in opposition, weakened by defections and internal wrangling.
He expressed gratitude to God and key stakeholders for their confidence in him, pledging to reconcile factions and rebuild the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“My duty as Acting National Chairman is to heal the wounds within our party and rebuild trust. But I cannot do it alone — I need the support and cooperation of every loyal member,” he added.
Notably, Damagum and his loyalists were absent during the official takeover.
