The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied reports suggesting that the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, was invited to take part in the planned foundation ceremony of an ecumenical chapel at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
In a statement issued through its media office in Abuja, Eko Hot Blog reports that CAN clarified that it did not extend any invitation to the Sultan and distanced itself from the claims circulating online.

The association explained that the document behind the report did not originate from its office but from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

It stressed that it neither authored nor approved any communication linking it to such an invitation.
CAN said it was important to address the issue promptly, noting that its name had been wrongly associated with the claim.
According to the body, the report was misleading and did not reflect its position.
The group also expressed concern that such information could fuel unnecessary tension, particularly along religious lines. It warned that spreading unverified claims may create division and misunderstanding among citizens.

Reaffirming its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, CAN stated that it continues to support mutual respect among different religious groups while safeguarding Christian worship.
The association urged media practitioners and the general public to verify information before sharing it, emphasizing the need to rely on accurate and confirmed sources.
