- The Northern Christian Association (NCA) has cautioned believers against engaging in abusive religious arguments, stating that insulting other faiths in the name of “defending God” is contrary to biblical teachings.
- Chairman Joseph Hayab expressed concern over the rising tide of volatile religious discourse on platforms like X, Facebook, and WhatsApp, describing such debates as “vain and unprofitable.”
- The association emphasized that hostile reactions to provocation diminish the essence of the Christian gospel and make a mockery of spiritual authority.
In a direct response to escalating religious tensions online, the Northern Christian Association has called on Christians, particularly the youth and clergy, to exercise extreme restraint.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the chairman Joseph Hayab, in a statement released in Kaduna on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, reminded the faithful that an omnipotent God does not require human defense through verbal attacks or abusive language.

Hayab noted that many ongoing online debates, while framed as a defense of Christianity, often degenerate into ungodly strife that ruins both the speaker and the listener.
Citing biblical passages from Titus and 2 Timothy, the cleric argued that reacting emotionally to religious provocation undermines the message of love and peace central to the faith.
The NCA leadership expressed deep concern over how social media has become an arena for heated exchanges that frequently lead to physical confrontations in the real world.
“I do not teach, encourage, or instruct church members to insult the divinity of another faith just because some disgruntled persons say or write awful things about Jesus,” Hayab stated.
He emphasized that using abusive words is not a show of strength but an act that “dims the bright light” of the gospel.
The cleric further explained that God is an “omnipotent warrior” capable of handling those who oppose Him, and human attempts to “fight” on His behalf through hostility are worthless and counterproductive.

The warning comes at a critical time when inflammatory posts and viral videos targeting religious figures have repeatedly sparked outrage across Nigeria.
The association noted that misguided religious zeal often leads to a cycle of retaliation that threatens national stability.
By urging a shift away from “reckless and provocative debates,” the NCA hopes to refocus the Christian community on its moral authority and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.
The association concluded that Christians should shun divisive conversations and instead embody the principles of patience and respect, even when faced with misunderstanding or ridicule.
