The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates who will contest in the February 21, 2026, area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, INEC confirmed that 17 political parties met the deadline for submission of candidates’ particulars.
According to the Commission, the full list has been uploaded to its official website and social media platforms, containing details such as names, party affiliations, age, gender, and academic qualifications of candidates.
The statement emphasized that no further withdrawals or substitutions of candidates will be permitted, except in the unfortunate event of death, in line with Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.
“With this publication, no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be allowed except in the event of death of a candidate or running mate before election day,” Olumekun stated.
INEC recalled that on August 18, 2025, it had published the personal particulars of candidates that emerged from the political parties’ primaries. The deadline for submission of candidates’ particulars (Form EC9) was 6:00 p.m. on August 11, 2025, after which withdrawals and substitutions were concluded.
“The Commission hereby publishes the final list of candidates that will contest in the 2026 FCT Area Council Election. The full details are available on our website and social media platforms for public access,” the statement added.
The FCT area council elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
