The High Court of Lagos State, sitting in the Epe Judicial Division, has declared Oba Musiliudeen Awoga as the lawful Orijeru of Igbooye community, in Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Epe Division, Lagos State.
Ekohotblog reports that the ruling, delivered on July 1, 2025, by Hon. Justice Sharafa Abioye Olaitan in Suit No. EPD/12330GCMW/2024, confirmed Oba Awoga’s rightful claim to the traditional stool after a prolonged legal dispute that had divided the historic town.

The Orijeru chieftaincy has been a source of conflict between two major ruling houses in recent years.
Musiliudeen Awoga based his claim on hereditary succession and adherence to traditional selection customs, while another faction backed Mr. Rasaki Akanni Musa, citing broader community support and past precedence.
With both sides laying claim to the stool, the matter was brought before the court to determine the rightful monarch.
According to court documents obtained by our correspondent, the judgment granted the following reliefs:
A declaration that Oba Musiliudeen Awoga is the duly recognized Orijeru of Igbooye, having met all legal and customary requirements.
A mandatory injunction restraining Mr. Rasaki Akanni Musa and others from parading themselves or anyone else as the Orijeru.
An order to the relevant authorities (3rd to 6th defendants) to formally recognize and install Awoga as the traditional ruler.

The court also ruled that the ascension process followed by Awoga aligned with the traditions and customs of the Igbooye community.
Speaking to journalists after the ruling, Oba Awoga expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for maintaining peace at the grassroots.
“I have fulfilled all the necessary requirements, and now the court has declared me the original and rightful Orijeru of Igbooye,” Awoga said. “It is time for peace, unity, and progress in our community.”
Although the ruling offers legal clarity, stakeholders believe that true peace in Igbooye will depend on reconciliation efforts and inclusive leadership.
