A fuel tanker caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Atlantic Road, Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) causing panic among residents and extensive damage to property in the area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the inferno, which reportedly started in the early morning, spread rapidly to a nearby mechanic workshop, where four vehicles parked for repairs were completely burnt.

No loss of life was recorded, though the incident left affected vehicle owners counting heavy losses.
Eyewitnesses said the fire created fear in the neighborhood as thick smoke billowed into the sky, forcing residents and passersby to flee the area for safety.
The swift response of emergency agencies helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential buildings and businesses.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, promptly mobilized emergency responders to the scene to contain the situation and minimize further destruction.
“The safety of our residents is our utmost priority. Immediately we received the distress call, we ensured that emergency services were on ground to control the fire and prevent further damage,” he said.
Hon. Akinloye also commended the efforts of firefighters and other emergency personnel for their professionalism and timely intervention.
“I want to appreciate the emergency responders for acting swiftly and courageously. Their prompt action saved the community from what could have been a far greater disaster,” he added.
Authorities have since secured the area, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and report any safety concerns promptly to relevant agencies.
