Dangote Foundation: 80,000 Bags of Rice to be Distributed Across Lagos

- The Aliko Dangote Foundation’s food intervention project, which has a nationwide target of distributing one million bags of rice, is part of an ongoing effort to combat hunger and provide relief to those in need.

The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Aliko Dangote Foundation, launched the National Food Intervention programme on Tuesday, aiming to alleviate hunger and bolster food security across Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.

During the flag-off event at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, urged stakeholders, individuals, and private organizations to join the food intervention programme and contribute to the welfare of Nigerians.

His words, “We can see what the Aliko Dangote Foundation is doing, we encourage others to do it. But the essence is to show that everybody in our country must contribute. We want more people to be doing charity.
The more you give, the more you get. So that’s what I will say to our people, whether small, big, you know, it doesn’t matter. Just give, and you will get more.”
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the Farmer’s Subsidy Programme as one of the key initiatives the state government has implemented to support local agriculture and cushion the effects of economic challenges.
The program aims to subsidize farm seedlings, feeds, and fisheries for farmers within the state, fostering food security and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
To ensure the effective distribution of resources to vulnerable populations, the government is partnering with Council Development Areas (CDA) Chairmen, leveraging their local knowledge and networks.
By working closely with CDAs and Community Development Committees (CDCs), the government can better address the specific needs of grassroots communities and ensure that resources reach those who need them most.
The Farmer’s Subsidy Programme, alongside the ongoing food intervention efforts with the Aliko Dangote Foundation, demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting local farmers, boosting food production, and improving the well-being of its citizens.
In her address, Trustee of Aliko Dangote Foundation/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dangote Group of Companies, Mariya Aliko Dangote stated that the initiative demonstrates the foundation’s ongoing commitment to alleviating hunger and promoting food security across the nation, adding that the foundation will distribute one million 10kg bags of rice throughout the 774 local government areas of Nigeria.
He noted that “This campaign is not only a response to the immediate needs of our communities but also a step towards ensuring sustainable access to essential food supplies. By reaching every local government area, we aim to touch lives in every corner of Nigeria, making a tangible difference in the daily lives of our fellow Nigerians.”
Dangote highlighted the importance of compassion and generosity during the observances of Ramadan and Lent. Dangote called for self-reflection, empathy, and charitable acts, urging individuals to remember those facing food insecurity as they gather with loved ones.
Zouera Youssoufou, Managing Director and CEO of ADF, further emphasized the foundation’s commitment to giving by discussing the annual Zakat initiative during Ramadan.
Through this project, ADF distributes one million bags of 10kg rice to over 774 Local Government Areas across the country, providing essential support to those in need.

According to her, “Every year during Ramadan season, we do Zakat. But this year Lent is overlapping with Ramadan. So our effort is even multiple. Our idea this year is to support Nigerians in all 774 LGAs by distributing one million bags of 10kg of rice across the country.”
