- Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has clarified that his defection to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is not a quest for a presidential ticket but a move to transform the nation.
- The former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate arrived at the PRP headquarters with a delegation of stakeholders loyal to ousted chairman Julius Abure.
- Baba-Ahmed warned that any attempts to announce “fake” results in the 2027 elections at unusual hours would be met with resistance.

He lamented that many qualified Nigerians have shied away from politics, which he believes has contributed to the nation’s current challenges.
The Senator also expressed concerns regarding electoral integrity, referencing the 4:00 a.m. announcement of the 2023 presidential results.
He asserted that the PRP would not stand by and watch electoral victories be taken away easily in future cycles.

Accompanied by prominent former Labour Party figures like Obiora Ifoh and Ayo Olorunfemi, Baba-Ahmed’s move signals a deepening shift within the opposition ranks.
PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who is Datti’s older brother, noted that the opposition remains fluid due to ongoing legal disputes and internal crises in other major parties.
He emphasized that the PRP is open to alliances and arrangements aimed at strengthening the opposition to ensure the current administration does not return in 2027, stating that the country “cannot survive another four years” under the present government.
