The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal has indicated plans to defect to the party, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday night, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, said there was no truth in reports suggesting that the governor had submitted a defection letter to the APC.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Idris explained that the report, which he said allegedly originated from Tambarin Gusau, was unfounded and deliberately circulated to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension within the political space.
“The Zamfara State chapter of the APC today came across a fabricated report purported to have emanated from Tambarin Gusau, claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal has sent a letter to the party expressing his desire to join the APC,” Idris said.
He stressed that the APC operates strictly through established and recognised party channels, noting that no such letter had been received by the party at any level.
“The party did not receive any letter from Governor Dauda Lawal as claimed, nor is the APC aware of any recent move by the governor to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC,” he added.
The party spokesman accused those behind the report of deliberately spreading misinformation to stir confusion and tension among party members and residents of the state.
Idris urged APC members and the general public, particularly people of Zamfara State, to completely disregard the report, insisting that it existed only in the imagination of its promoters.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to responsible communication and advised political actors to avoid spreading unverified information capable of destabilising the state’s political environment.
