EKO HOT BLOG reports that the latest violence triggered protests by local women, who blocked major roads and demanded the immediate withdrawal of soldiers stationed in the area.
The protesters also called on authorities to evacuate them to Makurdi, the state capital, citing the government’s inability to protect them.
“They should take us to Makurdi because the government cannot protect us,” one of the women told reporters.
Monday’s attack comes less than two months after a night assault on June 13, allegedly carried out by armed herders, which claimed about 200 lives in Yelwata, including internally displaced persons.
Many victims in that incident were burned alive, sparking nationwide outrage and condemnation.

As of the time of this report, security agencies and government officials have yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack. Residents remain on edge, fearing further violence.
