EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, the directive takes effect from Tuesday, November 11, to Monday, November 25, 2025. Property owners who fail to comply within this period will face enforcement actions by the FCT Administration.
Wike’s order targets allottees who altered the approved purpose of their properties without obtaining the necessary land-use change or conversion approval. The minister had earlier, on September 3, 2025, approved a N5 million fine for such violations, alongside a 7.5 percent charge on the assessed capital value of illegally converted properties.
The approval followed the recommendations of a ministerial committee set up to address widespread land-use abuses across the FCT. Consequently, the administration published the names of 374 defaulting property owners, urging immediate payment of the fines.
Olayinka noted that the minister’s latest decision was a “final act of leniency,” allowing affected property owners to regularise their land use before the deadline. He added that owners who comply within the period would receive new title documents reflecting the updated land use and a renewed 99-year term.
However, the statement clarified that the new title approval does not apply to lands already revoked or withdrawn for reasons such as non-development or failure to pay ground rent.
