EKO HOT BLOG reports that Farotimi’s arrest followed a petition filed by renowned lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN).
The case has drawn widespread attention, with various groups questioning the motives behind the prosecution.
The Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, has strongly condemned the arrest and called on the Nigerian police to halt the ongoing prosecution.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Wednesday, Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, criticized the arrest as unlawful and described the legal proceedings as a miscarriage of justice.
Olaitan argued that the prolonged delay in granting Farotimi bail only bolsters suspicions that external forces are influencing the case. “The delay in granting bail has confirmed fears that this process is being driven by extraneous factors outside the law and facts of the case,” he remarked.
Emphasizing the presumption of innocence under the law, Olaitan urged the police to act swiftly to restore public confidence in their integrity.
He further described the circumstances of Farotimi’s arrest as an “abduction,” pointing out that the arrest was neither logged nor booked at any police station in Lagos, where it occurred.
Afenifere continues to advocate for an immediate resolution, urging the authorities to prioritize justice and fairness over external pressures. As the case unfolds, it remains a litmus test for the rule of law and the credibility of the Nigerian justice system.
