Delta Air Lines has issued an apology to a Nigerian passenger who was stranded overnight at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after missing his connecting flight to Atlanta due to a delay.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that despite being rebooked on another flight, the passenger endured a nearly seven-hour wait without being offered hotel accommodation or lounge access. The incident has sparked outrage, particularly from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which has threatened regulatory action.

Attempts to reach Delta Air Lines for comments proved difficult, as the airline has no media office or representative in Nigeria.

Speaking to The PUNCH on Monday, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that Delta had apologized to the affected passenger.

“They have contacted the passenger and apologized for the incident. We have also called for a meeting, but they requested a delay, saying they may not be able to make it to Nigeria on Wednesday. However, we have insisted they must be here before the end of the week,” Achimugu stated.

The NCAA also cited data protection laws as the reason for not disclosing the passenger’s name without his consent.

The authority is expected to meet with Delta representatives this week to address the issue and discuss measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
