EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bwala, who is the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to the President, accused Obi of lacking the moral ground to speak on issues related to Nigeria’s democratic struggle, particularly the historic June 12, 1993 election.
He claimed that Obi was not part of the pro-democracy movement and instead spent that period abroad engaging in trade.
The criticism followed Obi’s Democracy Day message, where the former Anambra State governor advised President Tinubu to draw inspiration from late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Obi had urged Tinubu to acknowledge the controversies surrounding his rise to power, similar to how Yar’Adua publicly admitted the flaws of the election that brought him into office. He also referenced Jonathan’s act of conceding defeat in 2015 as an example of preserving democracy.
According to Obi, the Tinubu administration lacks democratic substance, and he has repeatedly challenged the credibility of the 2023 election, insisting it was marred by irregularities and did not reflect the will of the people.
Reacting on Friday via his verified 𝕏 handle, Bwala questioned Obi’s democratic credentials.
“Please, can someone confirm to me whether it is true that on June 12, 1993, and weeks after that, Peter Gregory Obi was in Malaysia or somewhere in Asia doing buying and selling trading business?” Bwala wrote.
“I searched the internet to see any of his involvement in the struggle for democracy, I couldn’t see any link ohh,” he added.

The comments have further intensified political tensions between Obi’s camp and the Tinubu administration, especially as conversations around electoral integrity and democratic governance continue to dominate national discourse.
